Canada keeps reforming its immigration systems to welcome more newcomers
The third quarter of 2018 has officially ended. Throughout this year, Canada has made many changes in its immigration operations.
Many of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs are now linked with the Express Entry. The Express Entry has three main categories:
- Federal Skilled Worker Class,
- Federal Skilled Trades Class and
- Canadian Experience Class.
Candidates, who get a provincial nomination, receives an extra 600 points in their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This increases their chance of getting an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
Some major changes introduced to PNPs in the third quarter are:
Ontario
The largest draw of the third quarter in Ontario was held through Ontario’s Human Capital Priorities Stream on August 9. 947 Notifications of Interest (NOIs) were issued to Express Entry candidates with a job offer in Ontario. The CRS scores of the candidates who were issued an NOI ranged from 350 to 439.
Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan introduced the Express of Interest (EOI) in July. EOI serves as ‘pre-application’ in SINP. Candidates have to answer questions based on work experience, education and proficiency in English or French, etc. The candidates receive a score out of 100 based on their answers. One has to score a minimum of 60 to qualify. The candidates are then ranked based on their score.
Saskatchewan has had two draws since launching the EOI.

Atlantic Provinces
Nova Scotia launched the Labour Market Priorities Stream on August 8. Through this stream candidates from the federal Express Entry pool, who meet provincial labour market needs, are then selected to apply for PR. CRS score of candidates is not used for selection.
Prince Edward Island invited Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination on three separate times in the third quarter through PEI’s Express Entry Stream.
