How to Migrate to Canada in 2022

The dream of building a life in Canada is not a new one. Thousands of aspirants every year wish to immigrate to Canada and try their luck through different immigration streams. Migrating to Canada as a skilled worker sounds like the best option. However, securing a job before immigration boosts CRS (comprehensive ranking scores) points.

Getting a job before moving to Canada is not always feasible, as it requires extra efforts from the Canadian employer. Other options for express entry programs do not require a job offer but are suitable pathways for Canadian immigration in 2022.

Express Entry Programs

Express entry programs have a point-based system that allows the best applicants to reach Canada and get permanent residency. Canada needs skilled workers and the economy is dependent on immigrants. The express entry has a pool of applicants who are picked and invited through express entry draws. Programs that give opportunity for applicants to migrate to Canada includes:

Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)

Express Entry draws for FSW are the most popular ones. This includes applicants who have extensive work experience, a high level of education and good English language skills.

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTC)

Similar to FSW, the FSTC includes applicants who are highly qualified in a skilled trade.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

CEC candidates are those who have either worked or studied in Canada. The CEC draws give these candidates opportunities to become permanent residents.

Migrate to Canada with other Options in 2022

There are a few more options where an applicant can apply for permanent residency in Canada in 2022. These pathways are through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) held in provinces. An applicant who is skilled in a particular profession will be picked up from the express entry pool and the province will nominate this individual. Notification of interest is sent out to the selected candidate via email.

After a nomination, the applicant in the express entry pool will get an additional 600 points to their CRS points. The PNPs include Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OINP), Saskatchewan Provincial Nominee Program (SINP), and the Nova Scotia Provincial Nominee Program (NSPNP). To be selected for any PNP, an applicant must have an active profile in the express entry pool.

Updated NOCs in 2021 for Immigration in 2022

Since all PNP draws happen for a particular national occupation code (NOC), it plays an important role in every express entry draw. Additionally, when applying through the FSW stream, applicants must show work experience that corresponds to the NOC requirements. This is essential to immigrate to Canada through the Express Entry system.

Each NOC skill will fall under three levels they are 0, A, and B. these skill levels help determine the employment activities in the Canadian labor market. Additionally, it also helps IRCC in managing the immigration and foreign worker programs. To understand which level of skill you fall under, call us on +1-306-500-1704 to find out.

As the Canadian economy progresses, the labor market changes, and the NOCs are revised accordingly.  This usually happens every ten years and in September 2021, Statistics Canada, and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) announced these changes.

However, IRCC and ESDC will not implement these changes until the last quarter of 2022. Currently, NOC 2016 is being followed. The announcement for NOC changes is made in advance so stakeholders and immigration applicants have more time to understand these changes and how they will affect their applications.

Old vs New NOCs

Old NOCs are categorized as:

  • 0, which are labor jobs that need job training.
  • A, which requires university degrees.
  • B, which either are skilled trades or need a college diploma.
  • C, which requires job-specific training.

New NOCs will come under a five-tier hierarchical system, which will classify occupations. NOC codes will be five-digits instead of the old four-digits. A TEER system will be followed with six different categories classified as 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
